Round up the winter gear if you haven't yet. Whether you are ready for it or not, this seemingly never ending warmth looks to be coming to an end. Right now, long range guidance shows much chillier weather arriving next weekend (11/12, 11/13) and pretty much taking up residence across the eastern part of the United States.

Anticipate temperatures to be near or below normal for the rest of November into December. Also look for a stormier weather pattern to develop. This will bring much needed rain to the state. With this all being the case, we could possibly see our first snow or ice event before the end of December.

Right now the upcoming winter is likely to be a bit colder than normal. As far as precipitation, there is no real signal for a dry or snowy winter, therefore an average seasonal snow total would be my guess. The average grand total from first snowflake to last ranges from 15 to 20” across the greater Lynchburg area. Of course, only time will tell exactly what is to come.
